in the Neustadt

This I found completely accidentally after rounding a corner in the Neustadt. There's a very vibrant anti-status quo community in the Hansestadt. In the 70s-80s, whole buildings by the harbour were taken hostage. The Rote Flora in the Schanzen is regularly raided by the police to keep the radical left in check.

Dammtor

This Art Deco train staion is important for both historical and modern reasons. It's a functioning train station in the center of Hamburg (between the main train station and the 'end of the line' which is the station in Altona).

Behind the Dammtor is the Japanesischer Garten. Very beautiful in springtime.

early Sunday morning in St Georg

View from Grand Hotel Elysee to the Moorweide

This is our hotel when we stay in Hamburg. It's owned by the guy who started the very successful Block House chain that you find throughout Germany.

This is where #HSV (Hamburg Sport Verein) stays when they're in need of a hotel. The restaurant is well-known in Hamburg. Regularly German and international celebrities stay here. I've seen Hannelore Holger, Rafael van der Vaart, and many others. There are photos in the lobby of many politicians, artists and footballers.

Day trip to Lübeck

On the Baltic sea, Lübeck is one of the Hanseatic cities that, along with Bremen and Hamburg, formed a community of 'free' cities in a time when most places in this part of the world were kingdoms.
